Town Plan Update 2023-2025

The Town of Bennington is in the process of updating its Town Plan as required by State statute.

Building on Bennington's recent diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives the Planning Commission and Selectboard decided that the updated plan should better integrate values of equity and inclusion across the topics it addresses. The plan update has been divided into two phases, with Phase 1 focused on reaching the broadest number of community members to provide input for the plan. 

The Bennington County Regional Commission (BCRC) has been engaged by the town to assist the Planning Commission in doing this work. Initial funding to pay for this work was obtained through a municipal planning grant and additional funding is being sought to cover phase 2, which will focus on drafting the new plan based on community input gathered in phase 1.

Phase 1: Community Engagement
We are seeking your input! There will be a series of community roundtable conversations about key topics in the town plan, including transportation, land use, housing, and climate and energy. There are in-person and remote options available. 

There is also a survey open for public feedback. The survey is accessible online. Hard copies of the survey will also be available at the Town Office, at community meetings about the town plan update, and by request (please email spage@bcrcvt.org).  

You can also submit a "Postcard from 2050" to tell us what you want Bennington to be like in the future. 

All community members are welcome to join and share their feedback and ideas. We are excited to have discussions with people who live, work, study, and spend time in Bennington on what makes Bennington great, and where the town can improve. We hope to hear from you! Your opinion matters.
