The Charter for the Town of Bennington outlines the powers and scope of government for the Town.

Every five years, the Town may seek to update or change the Town Charter as provided by law.

On June 10, the Select Board voted to establish a charter review committee for 2024.  If you are interested in serving on the Charter Review Committee or if you would like more information please visit the Charter Review Committee page.

Please use THIS FORM at the bottom of this page to share your ideas and comments for the Charter Review Committee. All comments will be provided to the Select Board and will be available as part of the Select Board packet. All comments and materials will be posted on the Charter Review Committee page. 

The comment submission form will continue to be available throughout the duration of the charter review for the public to continue to share comments as the process moves forward.

AN ACT TO PROVIDE A CHARTER FOR THE TOWN OF BENNINGTON
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1. RATIFICATION

The amendments to the Charter of the Town of Bennington, as approved by the voters on June, 1991, September, 1994, March, 2003, and June, 2019 are ratified.

Sec. 2. PREAMBLE

The people of Bennington reaffirm faith in Government of the people, by the people, and for the people and describe this government in a charter with provision to review and amend. The charter of the Town of Bennington reflects concern to improve the quality of life for all people and to improve the operation of Town government.
